I debated saying the roots have a strong gravitational connectivity to the craggy surface of the rock. But....clingy won out.

I lost the Apex, along with the approach graft that I started this past winter… But that doesn’t matter where they happy trident . More than a couple of buds popped right at the base of the original Apex, so I picked one, let it run for a minute, then wired it for shape. The cascading Branches grew unchecked for half the summer and have thickened up dramatically.

This one just was cut back and had some wire applied. I may try to slip this one into a training bonsai pot or it may just stay put for another year.

Another step forward for this one. It got moved from the nursery can to a wooden grow box to start the transition from vertically growing roots on the rock to a more horizontal surface nebari... Kind of winging it here , but I think it’s gonna work!

This planting is basically only three years old. Trident maples really develop quickly for what it’s worth
