So it really does not look like my jade bonsai is doing well in the office at all.

I really don't want a schefflera (sp?).

Would a too small ficus (ficus benjamina) do okay in an office environment with supplemental lighting?

I didn't go with this one to begin with because I know they grow very very fast. It will need to stay small. It has to be able to stay in a six inch pot.

Lighting is the lighting in the office. It's not white, but more of a yellowish fluorescent type light. Temp is consistent at I guess around the mid-70s. Water would be tap which is what I give all my plants.

you could do a ficus but you will need something like this for supplemental light
Regular office light wont be enough

Jade and Money plant would probably survive if they have adequate lighting and are not over watered

My jade is not surviving and it is not overwatered.

That's why I asked about the ficus.

I think the ficus would be a good choice. I’ve found that benjamina types can tolerate low light conditions. It’s probably not going to thrive, though. If you have a sunny window that would work too if lights aren’t allowed.

I'm in the inside. Those who have been there longer get the window cubicles. I haven't been there a month yet.

I know you said no umbrella plants, but those do really well in offices. I have one in my office, one of my office friends has one in his cubicle with just a tiny grow light and it does fine.

Lavender star also works well indoors in my experience. But it needs more light so you'd need a grow bulb for sure.

Can you put said plants on widow sills during the day or is it "if it's yours, it's in your office" environment? That's what I do for my haworthia and aloe.

It's if it's yours, it's in your office. Cannot put them on someone else's window sill. I really do not like umbrella plants.

Was hoping the ficus would work.

With that light you can probably grow a small Ficus microcarpa bonsai. You might grow two bonsai of similar size. Keep one at home in good conditions and one in the office under your light. When the office bonsai begins to look weak, swap it for the one at home. This is a version of what many of us do: the tropicals come in the house during winter where they just survive until they can go back out in the summer.

What about a too-little ficus? It is a ficus benjamina.

Gal at work brought in a money tree into the office and put it in the window. Minimal maintenance and doing really well. If you don't have a window a small plant light would work.

Not a fan of money plants either.

If its such a tough environment in your office why restrict yourself to bonsai species when there are dozens of other tough tried and tested indoor plant species you could probably keep alive !

Then it's just the same old same old that others have.
