What are these small insects? And how do I get rid of them?

As the title says what are these and how do I get rid of them. I've noticed some of my foliage has small little holes not a lot but maybe 2-3% of the leaves. What do I do? Thanks.

They look like baby lady bugs but I can't be sure. If they are, they are very beneficial to the plant. The holes may be from some other insect.

I was told not to worry about it until it looks to be a problem. There aren't many at all. And barely any leaves have any holes. And my tree is well established. Was just wondering what they were and if they could possibly severely harm the tree.

baby lady bugs

Kinda looks like those little "algae eating" bugs....

But I'm near convinced in early spring, With lack of algae...

They'll eat fresh emerging foliage too.

I think they might be carpet beetles, hard to tell from the pic but could be a Anthrenus of some kind.

OK, my guess has changed. Still hard to tell because of the pics but I recall seeing something very similar and somehow managed to find a photo or two that I took and just had it ID'd.
It looks as if yours has spots on the bug but the reflection makes it hard to tell.
Do they look like one of these on closer inspection?



If the answer is yes then it's a True bug Nymph. More accurately a Green Shield Bug nymph, Nezara Viridula.

You could squish them, a Pyrethrum spray would likely do the trick too without hurting your trees but it will kill any bug it touches as well so be selective on what you spray.

That'll work fine, I like getting concentrate myself, only because it lasts much longer.

It's possible for sure they're doing the damage, they look a bit more likely to be, the pyrethrum will kill basically any insect as said before so it'll take care of them.

Okay sounds good. I'm going to order it now. Is this something to spray on foliage? Or soil and foliage? Or everything?

I'm very careful about not getting pesticides in my soil whether necessary or not. If there's bugs in the soil I just dunk the pot under water for about 10 minutes and the little buggers will come out.

This looks like thrips, which you would definitely want to get rid of. Pyrethrum will work if sprayed directly onto the bug. If your going to spend all season worrying about the bugs on your plants, I would recommend a systemic, like Sevin.
