Weeping Ryusen Maple...winter was harsh

That tree is fantastic! Ive always seen them around, and thought they had potential, but now I need to get my hands one. Well done🤩

An update...the dormant image...that is not reverse taper. It is the cascading branch coming toward the viewer then down.
The tree is awesome. I was wondering why you chose to do a straight chop up top, instead of angling the chop (not a criticism, just trying to learn).

'Ryusen' can be pretty close to the type when grown from seed. I have about two dozens.
The first one has been kept in this small pot since, and gets a lot of sun :

The second one is from the same batch, but I staked it and repotted it in a much bigger pot with a handful of slow-release fertilizer to make it a "patio tree" to give to friends (2021-22-23) :

I was in bonsai less than a year when I collected this. It's healed real well...honestly...I've never pondered it. The branching comes off nicely where it budded. There is no reverse taper. The cascading branch comes toward viewer before dropping down. The scar healed well. I have no issue with how I did it. It looks good. If one should have cut at an angle... 🤷‍♀️ didn't hurt this ones direction at all.

Again the tree looks great and it wasn't criticism at all. I have a few trees that were cut straight and I was planning on angling the cut mainly because that's what folks say to do and also because I wanted more of a curve on certain trees. I'll say it this way - your tree made me think whether angling is always a must.

Very nice. An unusual cultivar for bonsai, good job!
Thanks. Not one that was planned. Mother nature had other ideas. This was planted as a memorial tree. So I tried saving it. I didn't know what the heck I was doing back then. As I proudly announced "This is bonsai" as I had my husband dig the thing out of the ground. 🤣🤣🤣 it's laughable now that I look back on it. I seriously questioned my own ability but wasn't disclosing that.

Thanks. 🙂 yeah...I owe Bill V for inquiring if it might be for sale...to really take it more seriously. That...and Adair telling me...if it were him...he would give it more attention. Then...I really focused on getting onto a nicer image. Before, I was in survival mode to save the tree.

Ahhh I'm sorry. It's been a long two weeks. My brain is numb. I tend to go literal in text. I wasn't thinking you found criticism. If it came off that way I'm sorry. I'm brain tired.

Just...my ignorance...and seeing where buds were popping. I didn't cut the dead end off until buds appeared and I knew somewhat of a direction. As...again...I was so wet behind the ears. I was scared to remove the dead tip. Lol

Thanks for the kind words... honestly. Brain numb...here.

I honestly didn't recall if it were cut flat or at an angle...to be honest. It's an earlier tree...and...I've a splitting headache. So sorry if I came across harshly or offended. I wasn't.

I missed that update... the tree is coming along nicely, can't wait for this years naked pictures. I'm pondering the idea of buying one, depending on how the two JMs I have now do this year I may order one next year for sure. I'm prepping an area with shade cloth to move them into since they are doing well under the shade of my yoshino this year. Yoshino is getting chopped this coming spring, so I need to hurry up.

They did quite well in full shade after 10 a.m. I even got nice Fall color one year.

I purchased 3 years ago from jensfarm maples... good value and nice trees that have grown well for me over the last few years.

Thanks! I'm going to have to check them once I get home, their website is blocked from work. I was able to access a cached version and appears as they don't have it now. Below are the only 3 options under their weeping page.
