Uncle C, bring your root slayer.

@Cajunrider I’m sure you’ve posted it elsewhere so sorry for the repeat.. what root slayer do you use? Considering picking up one now that I’m starting collecting.

Since you use it extensively probably, do you consider it very useful? Is it speeding the collection time considerably?
Here are the things I found that make it my go to shovel for collecting trees:
1. The blade is more than 16” long, allowing me to dig 11” away from the trunk. I can keep a lot of surface roots near the trunk yet still get the tap root by angling in. It is the #1 advantage for me.
2. The blade is thick and the handle is stout. Plus the long handle help me pop the tree out if the ground.
3. The serrated sides and V notch tip are efficient at cutting roots, earning it the name root slayers.

So far I used it as the only shovel for collecting more than 100 trees in the past year plus digging trenches to bury cable and water pipes. No complain whatsoever. A monthly tip sharpening is all I did.

That's a comprehensive review. I was thinking about purchasing one for some time so I may give it a try finally. Thanks
