Did the layer take 24 months to root? I’m struggling to get my Ume layers to root, they callous well but not much more at this point.

The airlayer was started in February of '23 here in N. California. I could see roots within a few months and by Fall of '23 I planted it into a similar size bowl and it took off! When I just repotted it this past week, I was amazed at the surface roots that I uncovered and the tight pack of feeder roots below.
I did use a rooting hormone powder sold over the counter at nursery supply
I see your moniker from Valavanis, who took the quote from Toshio T. Saburomaru, of Menlo Park, CA in the 70's. (Saburomaru used to write a column for a publication of the Bonsai Clubs International.)
Further, we had a visitor from Joburg at the USA Premier visit of Kimura at the '00 Mid America Bonsai Alliance show in Detroit, Ms. Colleen Johnson and she stayed for a few days at my home in Bloomfield Hills, MI.
