I don't always wire. Bouganvillia are brittle and thinskinned. I use hemp twine. It's cheap and kind to the tiedown points without scarring. If you forget to remove it it rots off by itself.

This pink pixie fell off the bench which led me to a hard prune this spring and growing a few replacement branches.

Interesting, Bonsai expert Dan Barton positions a length of light chain around the edge of a bonsai pot and then wires down to a chain link in the correct position to bend a branch. Having so many locations allows far better and very precise bending of branches
