I re-potted my trees without wiring them to the screen (that sits at the bottom of the pot near the single drainage hole). Will there be any negative affects because of this?
You wire the tree to the pot, not the screen.
Yes, there can be consequences for not tying the plant in. If it's been repotted, wind action can rock the tree back and forth, rubbing off emerging roots. The tree can also shift completely with a big gust. Animals can move it, or even unpot it.
The primary reason, however, is to keep the tree immobile after a repot so it can push roots undisturbed.
Nope, do not uproot the tree for this. Wrap wires around the top of the pot, so if something happens, the tree will not fall out. Also, to protect the edges of the pot where the wire meets it, put a small piece of rubber or something to prevent scratching of the pot. Make sure the wire that runs across the soil is pushed down onto the soil surface.

It's probably best to pull it out and tie it down while disturbing the roots as little as possible. I know I have regretted not doing it before and learned my lesson.
