I have a pretty vigorous Punica; it grows well but the trunk is quite straight, no movement at all. I was thinking about splitting the trunk into two and binding it together with some bends (I think that the trunk is too thick to wire or to use branch benders). Was wondering if anyone has tried this method before and if anyone had some advice. Thanks!

I have done that with pomegranate. Should be OK to do if the trunk is over 1". How big is the trunk?

You can airlayer a piece off and pair the two straight trunks together for a twin trunk. Its more desirable to have two 'straight' trunks as seen a lot in nature. They strike from cuttings easily, I have two straight cuttings im currently doing a twin trunk with.
