Trunk chop on a monkey pod / guanacaste tree

Hi all! My first post :)

I have been growing this monkey pod tree (Enterolobium cyclocarpum) from seed for about 8 years now... I think it may be time to do something?

It is currently sitting in my spare bedroom during the winter but if you check out the pictures, it is quite lanky now. I don't have a yard currently but I may be able to put it at friends (that comes with risks because they are very bad with plants, killing some and for some reason loving to repot my plants).

My questions are:

1) would this survive a trunk chop and would it actually send out near branches everywhere or just at the existing nodes? The trunk is looking good, and I want it be a perfectly upright tree with large crown one day.
2) would it be reasonable to try and either air layer some of the top growth / make cuttings to propagate it? I wouldn't mind having a few more little fellows before I go for a big move.

Thank you all!
