Is it safe to trunk chop a lonicera nitida mid-winter?

I want to do it as a space-saving measure as much as anything, but have read conflicting information on the best time to do it.

just do it. show me the conflicting advice?

Youre in the SW of England therefore the below advice is relevant to you

PRUNING Constant clipping is essential to keep foliage pads tidy and to encourage dense growth. Foliage should be thinned out in Spring to allow light to reach inner leaves. Carving or hard pruning can be carried out during late-Autumn and Winter. !!

Dont thank just get the saw/choppers out;)
