Tropical nights?

As of today (we are experiencing our fourth "unprecedented" heat wave of the summer) we are now at 54 of the last 55 days with nighttime lows above (in many cases well above) average.

Historic daily low at this time of year is 69 F. Last night's low was 78 F.

I am seeing heat stress even in mature trees in landscape - large oaks and maples. On the other hand... my tropicals are doing well. My Texas ebony (a desert native) is blooming.

Even up here in the mountains we’ve been seeing lows of about 70 for the last week. Prior to that we were in the upper 60s. However starting Saturday we’re projected to drop back to the low 60s at night, I can’t wait.😅

Same in Atlanta. Hasn't dropped below 68 for a month or so and probably another 2 weeks to go.

.. Send some of it our way.
Highs the whole of this week at 69F. Lows .. low 50-ies. And wet.

We have been in the low 80s for weeks now. Looks like we will not get any meaningful cool down for the next 2.5 months.

DC hasn’t seen the low side of 70 for three weeks at least probably more. It has been one of the most humid summers in history
650 hours of dew points over 70 since June. Normal is 270 hours or so.

We have consistent dew points in the mid 70s and even one day with a dew points of 83 🥵. Have to water trees carefully these days as some have mostly shut down because of the heat. It’s also tricky because all that humidity is precipitating out in torrential downpours. We were deep into drought during the winter the drought had persisted for years. We bounced out of it with a surplus in two months.
I’m talked to the curator of the National Bonsai and Penjing museum this weekend and asked him about watering trees there. He said much the same. He has to balance the amount of water with cooling. He said many trees there have closed down activity. The only things growing like weeds now are the buttonwoods—native to the Fla keys. They don’t get happy until it’s 96 with 70 percent humidity

My bald cypress and blue Atlas cedars are still pushing growth and my JBP have their little buds coming out where I cut them back last month. Everything else seems pretty sleepy. I still remember growing up in Quantico along the Potomac and living through those hot dog days of August before we had AC. Spent a lot of time in the pools on the Marine base.

Most nights have been over 70 here as well, but with humidity I'm still watering basically once a day. AC in the house is set to 69 so we can basically hang meat in the living room.

I ain’t got a pool😁

Looks like there are about 10 in the Fairfax Country recreation department. Plus you can take a dip in the Potomac anytime!

Same here. I started push mowing yesterday at 1:30 pm
Dew point reached 82°F several times, fluctuates constantly. Heat index was 106° when i went out the door. Good for flushing out the lymph system.

Dew pt 81.3
Heat index maxed above 110°. Fonally getting relief tomorrow and actually have a breeze with the approaching cold front. We maxed out at 118 heat index where i am once in the last 10 days.
But not officially.

Agree with the night temps. We too have a stretch going but not as long as Bonsai Nut has had. We normally have 100% RH overnight but generally drops into the 50s which is humid.
We've been above tropical in the jungle climate recently though.
Thanking God we're not in a drought this year, but I'm running out of places to hang my clothes, 4 changes/day

Everything is suffering here, I wait until it's under 90 to go out, but by then sun is setting. I think they are living on humidity.

lol pantscubes! ... have to tell everyone that the next time a hurricane wipes out power and everyone is hanging out at the grocery stores that have generators.
How you live in FL and pantscubes isn't in your daily routine is beyond me. :)
BTW... It's trademarked.

pantscubes
not even in my vocabulary yet.. I thought you were talking about putting ice cubes in pants to cool down. Now I know that can't be trademarked so... I Google and it only gives PACKING peanuts - like wouldn't that be cool some packing peanuts in the underwear to keep down sweat until you have to use a public bathroom.

Heat has been relentless this year... looks like it will cool down today but it's just been oppressive. Lost at least one tree to it, and even stuff in the landscape is feeling it.
