Triple trunk literati pine

I think you are on the right track. I might, if it were mine, bend the smaller trunk on the left out at about a 60 degree angle.

Thanks.
There's some scar tissue in the lower trunk that won't allow me to bend that part any more but I may be able to go a little more with the mid section and top. Maybe not quite so much though.

Nice work. Can you post a photo of the tree from the same viewpoint as this previous photo? I thought the relationship between the 3 trunks looked good here, as the smaller 3rd trunk leans further from the others (and the spacing is unequal):

Maybe you can rotate the current viewpoint a little to achieve a similar appearance with the small tree on the left?

Even with some scaring on the smaller of the three trunks I don't know why you cannot wrap them in raffia, tape and wire and bend them pretty much as you desire. I would also suggest that you do this with all three trunks. There needs to be some bends and twists in all of the trunks, in order to form a decent literati. As it is now your design looks a bit like a pitch fork.

Hey Vance, take a look at post #19. Bob indeed did this, the picture above is a before that someone inserted.

Looks unlike a pitchfork now....

Bob, it will be interesting to see this develop. Do you think in time you'll be able to move the smaller trunk a bit closer?

Thanks Judy. I could move it closer with guy wires but if anything I'd like to be able to bend it a little further out from the base which I can't do because there is deadwood and scar tissue there that will break before it bends anymore. I may bend out and slighty back the top of that trunk a little to add some depth. For the most part I'm satisfied now though.

I stand corrected. The results look pretty good except for that annoying little third trunk. Without seeing the dead wood or the scar tissue I don't have a true idea of what it might take to put some more movement into it.
