Im trying to take some nicer pics of my trees to post on social media and while I've always noticed the color difference, its way more apparent in photos.

I picked up this tree last year to be my "finished" tree in a pot to just be on my main bench and enjoy. I really like the odd three trunk clump of it. Im pretty sure the trunk on the right is an old graft. You can see the differing colors in the canopy but both trunks are healthy and both color leaves are hardening off. If its a graft of a different cultivar, is there much of a chance the canopy will ever grow in a uniform color?

This tree has probably been grown by fusing 3 seedlings together at the base. All seedlings have some genetic variation. Sometimes the variation is not visible but sometimes it is visible like this one. The difference will always be there because it is genetic.
Sometimes the difference is only noticeable for a short period in spring. One of my trident groups has one tree in it that has different coloured spring leaves. A few weeks later it is difficult to pick which one is different.
I have a triple trunk trident grown using a similar fusing trunks technique. One trunk leafs out a week or more earlier than the others and changes colour and drops leaves a couple of weeks earlier too.

This is a good reminder that grafting seedlings on to form new branches can have unintended consequences. Use cuttings from the tree if you need grafted parts to conform.

That's really informative, thanks! I'll just watch it and see what it does this year.
