Saturday my grandpa passed away and my wife and i bought two japanese maples and intent to keep those with us the rest of our lifes knowing that they atm are just two stick's in a pot and maybe never be show worthy tree's we decided to grow them out in boxes so we can provide beter care

their value to me is already far greather then any other trees i got because for what reason we bought them for.

Im curious what trees with emotional value you all have and what wonderfull stories there are atached to them what makes them priceless even if you know they are never going to be show worthy

Please feel free to share your story tree :)

Here the two jpm we bought to remember my grandpa

Heartfelt condolences on the loss of your grandfather...my own holds a very special spot in my heart...and the memories are priceless treasures.

The leaf on the orange dream is stunning!

Thankyou !
The orange dream leaves are so small because a aphid infestation i think but theyr gone now

I have a pot that has some sentimental value to me....its not a true bonsai pot, however, it kinda looks like one.
It was the pot of a very expensive and nice plant arrangement, with its own little water feature, that my employer sent to my grandfather's funeral. My grandmother kept the plants in the pot for 2 years, then she took them out and split them up, and put them in her garden, where they're now happy, and she gave me the pot.
Since it is not a bonsai pot, I had to use a diamond drill bit to put drainage holes in it....
The glaze is light and dark green, the lighting in these pictures is not the best to show off it's color.
I made four 3/4" inch holes and four 3/16" holes for tie downs...
Don't mind the ugly taxus in the pot, it's in there to grow out its first root system in good bonsai soil, and I'll dramatically restyle it this winter.
Being a deep square shape, the pot has lots of room for root development, and very good drainage.

i'm 11 000 km from home, and i'm in the process of obtaining trees from my home country, those will have a ton of emotional/sentimental value to them.

Are they able to survive the climate differences? And the quarantine ?

Very cool tough !

Careful in how much sentimental value you place on trees. Bonsai techniques can put a lot of undue stress on a tree especially if you are not totally certain on the timing and execution. You don't want to put that kind of sentimental value on an item only to re-live a difficult experience. That said I have sentimental value on some of my earlier trees for that reason, I started my bonsai journey with these trees, they will never be world class trees, but they are my most valued. I've lost trees that still pains me to a degree when I think of it, but that is bonsai.

I asked K to share this with you -

Here is a Tamarind about 30+ years old [ has a new pot, I have to take a new picture - Anthony ]

Found by the roadside outside the house by the maid - Joyce' - she came to look after us when I was
about 13. There were only 3 leaflets and the question was ------------ Is this a Tambrand [ as we say it locally.]
Joyce' died when she was 75, some years ago, but the tree is still with me ----------- in flower presently.
Still miss her.
