I recently moved to a new place and was happy that I had no squirrels or chipmunks digging and chewing. Last weekend I went to start moving things out of winter storage and found that I have rabbits instead. Now I wish I could have the squirrels back. This was a burning bush clump. The twin trunk was a privet.

That is tragic! You will have to invest in some sort of fencing for them. Sorry to see this, hope they didn't get anything more precious than these, but those would have been nice.

Get yourself a .22 and hunt them to extinction!
You can also get a couple of cats, or better yet a terrier.

Yep, this is exactly why I don't store trees outside during the winter. Voles and rabbits.

Rabbits can be fenced out pretty easily (but you will need to use metal fencing and bury it at least a few inches), voles are tougher. Sorry to see the damage.

Years ago, every time I wintered trees outside they got the bark eaten by rabbits, voles, mice, squirrels, you name it. Not one bite since I started wintering in my garage.

Wintering inside in a protected place is one solution. My favorite solution to pests is a family of red tailed hawks patrolling the area. They're at it all year long and the rodent population is much smaller now.

Rabbit stew anyone?

Damn those V.C.!
Cats and dogs and guns are the weapons I use in this war.

Excellent, we have 3 of those that started hanging around last year. Also a bonus Cooper's hawk. Downside is I don't feel comphy letting the little dog we have outside alone anymore

I have cats, hawks and owls that patrol here. But my Gamo Silent Cat works best...

That is when you are there ;) At the old place we had rabbits that were so tame the dogs we had could get within a foot of them before they would bolt. Every year babies would appear in the close shed and act like pets. To stop the problems they could have caused I tossed clover seed in the lawn and feed them Timothy Hay that we kept for the Tortoise. Honest, it all worked out as odd as it may sound.
