Masterpiece
Here's a dwarf maple I've been growing in the ground for 5 or 6 years from a 1 gallon nursery container. It was as thick as a CAT5 or thinner than a pencil.
Just dug up and chopped this spring. I was chicken to cut back more. But later I removed a little more.
Here it is this morning. Placed a branch for approach grafting. Expecting to do another as this other whip grows longer and hardens. So much satisfaction from getting a branch. Looks a bit like bar branching where I placed it, but it really isn't and won't cause reverse taper.
