Pushed into a tray of wet diatomaceous earth. Eventually the roots can even grow through into the substrate.

I just keep coming back to this thread. There is something about this tree. I would love to here more about the techniques you used to develop this tree.
 
Probably my smallest real tree - it's a Field maple/Acer campestre - grown from a collected seedling.

Going from a massive 4inch pot to a correctly proportioned 2incher from Walsall Ceramics.

I own the right size, see above, but it's just a complete stressy nightmare.

I reckon it would dry out in about 30 minutes on a hot day - so it's permanently buried in a humidity tray.
 
Well thats the problem...if something is worth doing its worth doing right. Thats why I don't have mini mini trees. Doing them right is tree suicide....
 
Planting a cool mini in a giant pot is childs play.
