Agreed.
It’s part way there. The needles are considerably reduced from what you’d normally see in the species.
They can get pretty small, but at this scale I suppose they’d need to be fractions of a millimeter.

The fullness of the canopy also may need to get thinned. Especially the straight upward growing shoots.
 
I’m very interested in how this plays out. Would love to see this offset in a very shallow pot, similar to a forest pot. I think that would help with the visualization immensely. Negative space is your best friend with this
