To each his own, but maybe you have a smart cat;) I have had some here refer to the beer I like as "crap" beer, I'm not offended. I don't like to have to chew my beer. Maybe I'll have to give the Earl another try, been years since I've had it. My son is quite fond of Twinnings Lemon/Ginger tea.

Hah, how could one be offended by anothers personal taste? I just give you a hard time cuz it's my regular go to :)
I doubt you'll like it any better now, though Twinings does have a Lady Grey. Perhaps brand is part of it.
If I brewed a cup of Bigelow like I do this, I wouldn't drink it either.
That ginger sounds spicy but would give it a whorl.

Guess what? I'm having one of those this summer.👏 If the mice and birds allow it.. Because they've killed five seedlings already. Costly joke.

As for the mint, I have both morroccan as well as alpine mint (which I consider a landrace) and the alpine mint is way more herby in taste. I remember making tea out of the alpine mint and not liking it at all. But it's better in food!

Earl gray is meant to be drunk black no sugar slice of lemon. Cheap Earl Grey is horrible good stuff drunk correctly is nice (most uk people drink cheap awful tea like pg tips or worse and most of my fellow country men/women add milk to Earl Grey yuck)
 
I've tried very unsuccessfully to find the middle eastern teas I remember from my times in the region. All that pops up in my searches are cheap knock offs for the novelty market. Unfortunately, I was so young and so distracted by not dying back then that I was never able to learn anything about it, so I don't know where to start refining my search.

I did come across a website for Persian family selling their home styled stuff out of a shop in London, but couldn't justify the added expense of overseas shipping. I didn't see anything of the Persian style samovar type, though.

Adaptations of the Russian styles for samovars abound because of the Russian influence in Alaska. I of course don't have a samovar or know how to use one, so wouldn't do me much good anyway. LoL

It's not even a matter of enjoying it as much as sharing the experience with others. My wife have gotten into international cooking the past couple years, and when she does middle eastern food I always think, "this needs tea with it to complete the experience."

Used to take the train & subway to visit NYC Chinatown with friends. We'd visit Ten Ren Tea & Ginseng Co. and buy loose teas to try together. I got hooked on an inexpensive, minimally processed green tea called Shou Mei (AKA "Old Man's Eyebrows" for the shape of the leaves).

Also around that time (years ago) someone gifted us with a box of "chocolate tea." We tried it once. Couldn't give it away -- guess we have honest faces, and "maybe you would like this better than we did" just wasn't selling it!
 
Favorite when I want a hit of caffeine: Karel Capek's Pancake Tea. When I received this tea, I kind of expected it to taste like that toasted butter smell you get when making pancakes. Instead it tastes like maple. With a tsp of sugar and a little spash of cream it is so delicious!

Favorite when I want a refreshing iced tea with no caffeine: Karel Capek's Children Herb. The tea bag seems to be full of dried fruits, including green plum. It makes a pretty pink brew, very fruity, delicious with a tsp of sugar and served over ice.

i dont know about spearmint, but you are correct that Licorice & Mint is a surprisingly amazing combo, I’m going to search around for your brand, the one I was enjoying was a seasonal and is not made anymore.

  • Just enjoyed a huge icy cup of Thai Iced Tea which is one of my most guilty pleasures.
  • For hot tea in the evening for me, nothing beats a strong Ginger with some fresh lemon.

I am a massive licorice snob and devotee, so trying this!

I was raised by hippies and as a kid one of my treets was actually real licorice root, like just a twig of it to chew on. So flavor has to be pretty genuine to pass muster with me.

Those were nice. Got a little messy with the bark coming off and the yellow fibres sticking in your gums.
I have not seen those for sale in ages. Wonder whether they are still in stores..
