I haven't had a $400 tree stolen yet!

The sad reality is in a place like Oakland with the amount of crime and theft etc, the best deterrent will be dogs. Our club has had a longstanding practice of not identifying members by their full last name [just an initial] in newsletters and emails for anonymity, and the shared understanding is that you never assign a value to a tree. Our fear is not so much the professional thief [let’s face it, no one would think of Milwaukee to be teeming with high-value trees.] Rather, we worry about some imbecile who thinks (a) it’s worth something, (b) I can easily find a buyer, and (c) I don’t have to do anything to keep it alive.
