Ive taken a few cuttings from the mother tree, so this could very well end up as 3-5 tree clump. In my clump era atm
The buds are just beginning to move on this Beech clump. Put together from hedging material recently.
I did another one with Hornbeams that isnt looking good. On this Beech I kept many of the roots, all the long downward ones, to give it the best chance. Because the roots can be reduced over a few pottings.
I really like this group, it has multiple good sides.
This thing is a beast that’s needs serious taming. Never have I cut back in April. It was fertilized very lightly in the fall and just exploded. Might have to try pinching next year.

I’m experimenting with pinching this year on other maples and strong growth at the lower portion of my arakawa
I’m curious how it goes. @Brian Van Fleet mentioned pinching his Chinese quince but mine doesn’t have five leaves yet and I’m wondering what impact it’ll have on late may / early June pruning
