The Tree Thread

Chinese quince. I had been watching this at the nursery last year and it was still there, so I got it. Roots were coming out the bottom and I wanted to get motion into it.

Long left branch and lump near the trunk is to control die-back, extending work that was done prior to my finding the tree. It’s loving the better Aoki blend I put it in and has blown up a bit from this point, looking forward to seeing what it’s like fully hardened off. Not fertilizing for now but gave it superthrive after reporting. Well protected and leafing out well!

After

it ALMOST looks like there may be a way to save the long left branch (that chop was 3/4 done when I got the tree) but I feel like it’s a pipe dream, and that when fully flushed out there will be better asymmetry without it. Going to need to wait til next year regardless, maybe longer from my understanding.

Had a larch that I didn’t know what to do with and confused everyone I showed it to at a group, I figured I might as well try a re-set. Main plan had been to let the trunk thicken and work on taper but we we see what pops out, main thing I wanted to do was get more motion in the trunk.

not much to look at I guess haha

here’s a white pine I wired last year instead. Can’t ever get the photo angle right.

My very first pruning I’ve done in the hobby. Japanese boxwood

I know a 2D image isn’t representative of a 3D object

Kind of hard to prune as they were previously pruned into the “Pom” shape by the nursery. I feel I’d have to really trim it hard to start over with the crown

Stewartia in new shoes, Reiho.

Really lovely, Brian.

Boxwood moved from nursery can to a Dan Laxdall pot. Removed several unwanted branches last year. Roots are now in order. Just need to get that foliage in line.

Realizing now that I should line the front of the tree up better with the pot's legs.

Field Maple from seedling. Growing a lower left branch hence the sacrifice to catch up with the rest thickness wise.
