The Car Thread

It seems like every hobby group I join has at least one car thread, we seem to find each other everywhere we go.

My summer daily 1975 Datsun B210, kinda of period modded, mildy warmed engine with non US emissions head and weber carb. Brakes and suspension work:

My summer toy 1977 Toyota Celica which currently is on stands with a blown trans. 1uz-fe powered, completely rust free but "paint" is actually plasti dip... I have a non us style fiberglass front bumper for it that I plan to chrome wrap and need a solution as a fill panel for the gap below the rear bumper. US Spec bumper hid the spare tire well more. Would love to find some Japanese wheels for it once the drivetrain is sorted a little better. She absolutely rips when drivable. 1uz (as well as the 2uz in my winter daily/camping/hauling sequoia) have the smoothest torque delivery I have experienced.

this is my favorite photo of my car. upgraded from a Prius to get AWD and used that to great result the same week i got it. not pictured is the red leather interior 🤤
I have been a fan of Mazdas. We have had two 5s as family cars, a protege5, RX7. Wife had a MX3 when we got married too.
Manual, 3 row, small (mazda3 chassis) van with a tight suspension was the closest thing she would accept as a family car upgrade. I will take a picture of the one we have now later.

Very nice, I love mini vans, especially when they're actually mini!

Now if only they would bring back small pickup trucks...and no, the Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado are not small!

I am a Ford master tech . Ford and Mazda are closely related companies . Having at minimum a agreement to share tech. ( ford has and still owns a considerable stake in Mazda shares ) examples of the co operating are . Mazda pick up is a ford ranger . A Ford Fusion car is a Mazda 626 chassis . The 2 and 2.3 litre motors are basically a ford block and internals . With a Mazda cylinder head . The relationship has helped both companies . Produce better cars

i was just looking at some work wheels for my z car inspiration gallery. I'm going to get my hands on a z one day

If Equip 40s were available in 14s they would be the frontrunner. I wouldn't mind a little more sidewall. 03s have always been a favorite and available in 14s and the car does look good with the Drag replicas that are currently on it. 01s are probably the ones that scream old school Japanese to me, likely the similarity to Longchamps. That said, all three of the vintage looking Equip series are pretty SSR inspired.
I would probably jump on 03s or 01s in the specs I want. Also would love Spit Modenas, Longchamps, Hyashi Streets or even Sakuras. Don't know a wheel that screems "this car is from Japan, its not a 3/4 scale Camaro" better than Sakuras.

This car has had me digging through the speedhunter archives a bit. Its been a handful of years since I really dug deep into some of that culture. Good times.

You absolutely should get your hands on a Z. They are so much fun. If my kids didn't enjoy cruising so much I may own a 240 instead of the Celica.

My VW "shitbox" Jetta from 2005 is still operational even though I backed out with a wooden pole in the wheel case (or whatever that's called). 250K kilometers and counting.
And I do need to compliment @Frozentreehugger for being super clear on explaining how steering columns work. Never in my life have I talked to a mechanic that was able to write down whatever I should look for with such clarity. That takes skill and probably a whole bunch of "dealing with people".

Thankfully my jetta is not as attractive as this mercedes I saw a couple weeks ago.

more than happy to help . It bothers me the rep that scum bags . Have given mechanics

I forgot to take pictures but it took me almost 2 hours to amend for my mistake of allowing my wind blown watering to land on LadyRider's Acura. In the summer high heat, the water dried quickly, leaving hard water spots all over her car. She was pissed because she just had her car detailed. Talk about a pain in the butt to remove those spots.

I got a new one this year, A Skoda Kodiaq Executive, It has more room to fit trees in!!

I have a li'l MG Midget in the garage that I 'won' on fleabay, Started to do the welding that was needed and suddenly my left knee went, Had to have a replacement in 2015 then the other four years later so the little car is still in the garage!! I can't even get in and out of it now, I can drop in to the drivers seat but it's so small I ended up having to get out on all fours!! (Can't even do that now! Supposed to be getting it finished so my son can have it!

Nice cars! I understand why, but it's such a shame that we didn't get the good Escorts in the States. They didn't sell them here until the 3rd generation and it was still not quite the same car sold in the UK. I would love a MK1 Cosworth... Instead I will stick to my similar era Japanese cars...

My brother in law had a Sierra Cosworth, He hated it and couldn't wait to get rid of it, He said the ride was just so uncomfortable and it felt like there was no suspension!! He was amazed at how rapid it was though!

Here's another car I had, A Toyota Crown Custom Estate auto, It was originally my aunts, She aqcuired it when it was six months old in 1972, It had no powered steering and she was only slightly built!
She used this for several years and knew that my dad loved it, When she was ready for a new car my dad had this from her, Fast forward to 1990, My dad passed away and I had the car, Eventually I parked it up as it was a thirsty car and fuel prices had gone up, A lad was wanting it to customise so eventually it went to him, He had a Subaru Imprezza, He was aiming to remove the bodyshell from the Toyota and marry it to the Scooby chassis!

you can blame CAFE standards for never letting that happen.
