Figured I'd start a thread on this Colorado spruce yamadori I bought last month from Satoyama Bonsai.

My spruces have always pushed either blue or green growth, this one is different than the others I have.

Dang that tree is nuts! Congrats! That will be a fun one.

There is a lot of variation in color in blue spruce foliage. As you mentioned it can be more blue or more green depending on the individual plant. The new growth looks pretty standard to me, although maybe a little pale. I think it is probably just from being weakened by the collection process. I am sure you will have it healthy again in a year or two 😎

Definitely going to enjoy seeing what I can do with this one. I agree, could be nutrient deficiency causing the color variation I figure. It has a ton of new growth so health shouldn't be a problem.
