The 2026 Seven-year Shimpaku Juniper contest

Interesting technique, @JEads - I don't think I've ever seen someone add the twists prior to doing bends and curves - I've always seen it done at the same time.

I'll give that a try on a couple of mine.

Now THAT"S the stuff! I am not twisting mine nearly enough it seems. He's really cranking on those branches.

This sounds exciting,
Coming into my 3rd year of growing, I have a blauuws airlayer and a Chinese juniper cutting (maybe 2) that would be fitting for this,
I’ll post some pictures of all later, see if they qualify and make a thread… this good ?

I'd like to join the contest, once the snow melt's I'll start my contest thread, but I have many 1-2 yr old kishu an shimpaku cuttings I'll enter.

I'm interested. I have some Kishu cuttings I rooted last year or the year before. No work done except potting on once they rooted. Think I've also got a small Itoigawa starter- same deal, no work done except potting on. Right now they're all under about 18" of snow, so I'll hold off on making a thread just yet.

Is it too late to join the contest? Is there a cut off date for getting our first post with the material submitted? Would be excited to participate!

There is not really a cut off date, you just need to prove that the materials were smaller than a pencil and not bent prior to Jan 1st of 2026. so if you wanted to start with 'qualifying' material a week before the contest ends, that would be fine.
