The 2023 Christmas Gift List thread

As far as tools go, a rounded concave cutter might make a great gift. I hear a ton of people saying you can’t know how much you need one until you have one.

Haven’t tried one myself yet, but they seem neat.
I would suggest Trying one first. I find they tend to crush ends making healing more difficult. Prefer the ball type cutter or straight seem to cut cleaner.

I've got a:
  • Upgraded pair of scissors
  • A basic pot for a tree that can come out of a net pot (although honestly its a $12 DAS and I'm also thinking about just pitching it as not very good material)
  • Maybe some Jin/wire pliers
  • Branch saw

I just picked one up on sale from American Bonsai, as I would quite like to try one, but haven’t had the chance.

- I always appreciate a gift certificate to hardware store because I can buy what I need when I run out of something or whatever tool I need etc.
- Large tub of good quality slow release fertiliser
- Any size bonsai wire (I try to re-use but the number of plants has increased round here and it's something I plan on buying during the Christmas break)
- I'd be happy with 50+ 140mm nursery pots even if they were second hand
- Not exactly bonsai related, but any berry fruit shrub / tree

That's a little above my family's secret Santa sit price. 😂
Understood, I can recall checking pockets for change and putting things back on the shelf before approaching the check out at the grocery store. What is life without dreams.

I think some people are confusing the purpose of the thread: general gift suggestions for bonsai hobbyists with things they need or would like for Christmas themselves.
