You have me beat by 2 bucks lol...these things are not cheap! I can't wait to see what you do...mines done, so it's very interesting for me at this pointI'm entering in the Intermediate category. Picked up this Callistemon (Bottlebrush tree) from the same nursery that I purchased the Fall Box Store Challenge Juniper from. Purchased on 3/7/2015. It's going to be to tough but I love a challenge.

I was out of town yesterday so sorry for not replying sooner. It's a qualifying shrub so you're good to go.OK,..so the escallonia did not inspire and turns out that the branches are extremely brittle. So. Third and final attempt. Still a beginner (all though if we learn from our mistakes I should be a friggin' expert in no time). Pyracantha. $8.98. Home Depot. 14MAR2015.

Thanks for the update Vance. We're still a month and a half away till the deadline. Are they saying they won't have anything by then or they just don't know if they will? I'd like to see everyone have an opportunity to participate. The nurseries around here don't even have a schedule of when they might start receiving stuff.
It's still early yet. I'm sure you'll find something.Having a hard time finding anything with a trunk thicker than a pencil!! Lol

Duranta is an evergreen and qualifies. It looks like some good material. Good luck!I will be entering in the intermediate category. Here is my Duranta. Never heard of it before the contest but when I got home from the nursery I did some research and found they are often used in bonsai.
LOL. Third time's a charm in my case. I am beginning to think Vin has stock in Home Depot.I'm starting to regret my choice... I think I might get a tree more ready for the challenge.
Haha! That's an idea but most of us are tightwads so I wouldn't be making much.LOL. Third time's a charm in my case. I am beginning to think Vin has stock in Home Depot.
Oh, I forgot.. I guess I am advanced category. If we are going simply off time in the hobby, I am certainly in that range. Don't feel very advanced sometimes and I kind of taught myself for most of the first 10 or so years I was doing Bonsai...I got an azalea today I had never seen before: Kurume "Hershey Orange"?? I am interested to see what the blooms look like.. BUT, here is the issue- if I style within the next 14 days, I will have to remove pretty much every bloom on the tree! Does anyone care if I wait a little longer than the 14 day limit, just so I can see this guy in full "party gear", and give it a chance to calm down a bit after blooming before I attack it? Vin said he was cool with it, but wanted me to pose it to the group before I proceed. This is kind of extenuating circumstances I suppose... I am not gaining any advantage from waiting longer, just want to see the tree in full color! If nobody objects, then I guess I will take that as an OK- Vin said I should post a pic of it blooming to start the ticker on my 14 days.
I have a pic of the "nursery" on my phone if anybody really needs to see what Lowe's Looks like, I can post it when I get on my ipad again! I got another Satsuki while I was there too- a "Momo No Haru" variety with pink blooms... Can we enter more than one? I see where someone above me posted like 2-3 trees... I wasn't planning to enter the "Momo No Haru", it was just a Satsuki variety with tiny leaves I did not own yet!View attachment 69532 View attachment 69533
