I think loss of genetic diversity in our food crops is a serious problem. Especially in the face of climate change, GM crops, and loss of farmland as population grows. This is a creative way to preserve that gene pool. If you grow a vegetable garden, please look into growing heirloom crops and saving seeds. No hybrid tomato tastes as good as some of the heirlooms. I'm disgusted with the lack of flavor in the fruits and vegetables offered at our markets compared to the ones I grew up with.
