After studying for over a year now I am seeing several different directions to proceed with this little taxus

What are some thoughts and opinions for reducing height and adjusting balance?

Let it Grow

I would make one cut. Other than that I would let it grow un-checked for a couple seasons to thicken. Taxus buds back readily so after you thicken it you can then cut off any too thick branches and start over setting primary branching. For now I would remove the bar branch and replace it with the branch above it to avoid reverse taper in that area. Nice movement you just need to thicken it up a bit in my opinion. If you are happy with the size then I would bend 1 down to form your apex and still remove the bar branch.

right on I didn't even think of moving 1 down I think that would definitely keep it nice and balanced

initially I was contemplating cutting back to #3 as apex or even more dramatically #5 as apex and keeping just a few branches for ramification, and hopefully it would develop into something short and thick given time and care that is

adjust #1 and #2 becomes Apex

cut up to #3 new Apex

Cut up to #5 new Apex

With something so young I would use #5 as the new apex and plant it in ground or the like to thicken

so I ended up taking a little bit different route with this taxus
pleased with the end result, cant wait to see how it progresses in the future

Fertilize it and watch it grow. Keep the growth on the first branch to the left in check it you plan on keeping it.

The development will go faster with a larger pot.

Curious what variety that is as some grow slow...
