Tall jungle tree type bonsai inspiration (help)

Sigh.

If you're not going to take our advice please just do us a favor and leave instead of trolling.

I think you are right that the light is lowish, but that's why I have extended the photoperiod.

A couple of years back I had this same thought, after being unsatisfied with just being dismissed by folks saying that growing plants indoors was a waste of time. Instantaneous light measurements weren't giving the full picture so I built an ambient light measurement device with a programmable microcontroler, allowing me to not only to take instantaneous measurements but also cumulative measurements over time.

But even with the data in hand, what am I going to do? The fact that I know my plant got 608,000 lux-hours of light today doesn't mean anything if I'm unsatisfied with the growth it's putting out. Results are what count in the end. Maybe it was the wrong wavelength, who knows. I did not build a wavelength-o-meter (whatever that would be called) to see the spectrum.

There are other very important factors when growing plants indoors. Air circulation is actually very important. I can make a post on Ficks Law for boundary conditions if you are interested.

Also, humidity is important indoors. A lot of tropical plants aren't equipped to deal with low humidity conditions. They essentially have to shut down and limit photosynthesis because of it.

Your original post said that you were trying to accomplish something but could not find any examples of it. Could it be that it's because this "ideal style" in your mind is not something the anyone can/wants to take the time to achieve in bonsai?

You asked a question of bonsai hobbyists/professionals who all gave you answers. Believe it or not, they were trying to help. Because you did not want to hear those answers and have "taken a few graduate classes in plant physiology" everyone who was trying to help in unintelligent and rude?

If you want to make a tree that you can't find any examples of, in your locale, out of the zone in which it grows naturally, with your education and setup, HAVE AT IT! You could be considered a pioneer in 20 years! But please don't tell people who have been practicing bonsai, from whom you solicited aid and opinion, that they're wrong and unintelligent. If you don't want honest feedback, you're at the wrong forum. Prove that you can do it and submit the results.

I humbly submit that your screen name says it all...see ya in 20.

Anytime you want to debate factual information feel free to chime in. As of now you're just embarrassing yourself.

Embarrassing myself? Says the guy who doesn't know their from there.

You seem to think you know so much more than we do simply because you have a degree and Google to back you up. We have years of personal experience behind us and actually know what we're doing. You're not growing bonsai, you're growing terrarium plants. Please do what you said you were going to do, and leave.

Def. of "fact": something that has actual existence, an actually occurrence.

So far you have only spoken of what you can theoretically do based on your setup, knowledge, light spectrum, air movement, etc. Evidence is the only thing that confirms your claims that you can raise the level of bonsai from your first post in your current set-up.

I await said evidence (hence "see you in 20") at which point it will be "fact". If folks then argue with it, your article applies. Until then...NOPE! You have no proof of your claims and until such time as you can produce some, according to Webster, it ain't a fact!

Good luck.

The fact that you couldn't grow a ficus indoors is evidence that you don't know what you're doing...

If you're smarter then everyone else, why are you still here?

Still awaiting "facts" as defined by Webster...When I see them, I will happily congratulate your achievement. Even Zeb said, "Results are what count in the end."

Yeah no, forget the fact that I have 30 plus Ficus under 2000 watts of lighting. Yeah no, I can't grow Ficus at all. Ignorant troll.

Why is everyone criticizing me for trying to grow ficus indoors when they are apparently doing it themselves??? this just keeps getting more odd....
