Summer collection of Texas Persimmon

Does that imply that collecting them and defoliating might be a good strategy? I've successfully done that on a couple of styrax air layers when there have been very few roots after separating
Maybe. But the collector (Vito Megna). Didn’t defoliate the trees. They defoliated themselves. Worth a try. He collected in the early spring

Not much has changed thus far. The fat one is still green, and the thin one is still brown. I suspect the real test will be to see what happens come spring.

Persimmons are busy setting next year's buds this month. For persimmon bonsai in general, if you don't see buds for next year then it means the tree is weak and you should not let the tree freeze over winter. Your collected trees at any rate should not be allowed freeze.

Keeping them from freezing should be easy. We don't tend to get frost until late December at the earliest, and I have a garage they can be moved into.

Both of the trees pictured were collected Aug 24, the taller twin trunk had some issues with fungus due to the heavy rains around the July 4th flooding.
