Still working on the apex here… the rest is falling into place. I did one more root graft to hopefully reduce the size of that gap.

The ugly duckling here also got a root graft and a bunch of thread grafts. Still ugly, but there’s hope . Worked the chop scars, too… these may actually close .

What is the purpose of this graft? It looks like it's placed too far out from the trunk to improve the base. Also, it seems to be in a spot where there is a bulge in the root. A graft in this location seems like it would only make it worse. Maybe the picture is deceptive

Many of my tridents have had thick roots chopped, and I've worked at improving the ramification in those roots when and when I can. So, that's the intent of this graft. I will agree that that root is ugly but not as bad as in the picture... here's a picture from the other side.

The graft hasn't obviously taken so I'm giving it one more season, then it's gone... may reduce any obvious bulge there at that point as well.

Not yet… it slowed down up here in the frozen north. I still see this closed in maybe 3 more years.
