Some photos from the Belgian Bonsai Trophy - yesterday.

I know I'll be buying so I don't even try to fool myself into believing I won't.

Small trees, then 😂
I did hold back. I almost bought the massive deshojo Danny had for sale. ABout 5 inches thick, 6ft, scarless with primaries and some secondaries in place for 600E

. Stateside, it would easily be twice that. I believe there's fewer hoops for our European friends to jump through to import material like this, and the reduced cost may reflect this
I doubt it.
I have been amazed at the price for shipping in / to the USA. I think that might be the thing. I wonder whether you are being horrible overcharged for shipping anything. A few books from the US to here was quoted at nearly 100 bucks. Insane.

I like art. But I do not really like political statements in a bonsai show. Call me old-fashioned.
I very much disliked the hint at past history by the use of flags of certain nationalities in the display.
Sorry I'm not trying to trigger a debate, and from the hanging dudes helmet I can figure what country we are probably talking about and agree its better left out. But I didn't see any actual flags? Either in person or in Jerry's pics or my own, maybe they were taken off before the display went public?

I think this is the first time I've seen a displayed tree with a guy being hung by the neck! (page 3 of Jeremey's flickr, half way down). Most displays were pretty traditional, so that one really stands out.
I missed it, and had to go back to look for it.
Interesting, but I'm sure I have other thoughts. I just don't know what they are yet.

This year prices were through-away your collection and buy new level. One of the MAIN bonsai growers / bonsai artists (Danny use, Ginkgo Bonsai, Belgium) is clearing his nursery and all trees for sale were at half regular-value. Many traders were unhappy. Besides this, Bonsai Plaza had some trees for ridiculous prices too.

I could not resist the temptation either.

We did bring a lot and sold a lot 😂 But theres still plenty left in the nursery to clear out...
Didn't notice any of the other traders being unhappy about it...

Glad you did take one of the yamadori's!

The Deshoyo is still available ;)

Maybe you were in Danny's team.
I have had a few befriended traders grumbling that sales were down compared to last year, blaming ao danny's pricetags

Yes I was.
Possible.. I've heard/seen others buying cheap and selling more expensive in their own stand. business I guess 😅

Do you have a way to get it to me?
Still thinking of that tree
Hmm, most likely yes.
Danny doesn't like shipping, but maybe I could do something for you.
I'll be in the nursery on saturday and I'll check on it. Pm me.

It was the one up on the cart, right?

In the first part of the video he visits Lodder Bonsai and Bonsai Plaza on his trip to the Trophy.
Maybe nice to see for members who have never been there.

@Corin Tomlinson
At around 12 min into the video you show a Blue Spruce you bought.
I remember seeing you with this tree on Saturday morning at the booth of Danny Use.

Yes never seen the big Dutch importer nurseries before... Wow. I think all the tasty trees have 4+ figure tags on though! 😵

Do you see any big tasty trees in uk for less than 4 figures?

Not trying to be funny genuinely interested as I thought trophy trees were much cheaper than comparable in UK
