some interesting ones that I found today near my driveway

I attempted a few air layering trials yesterday so we will see how they pan out.

The tall ones I was planning on cutting them down to level to have a thick trunk to work with and going from there.

Keep the comments coming! thank you!

Late spring is better to airlayer. Even down their I reckon.

#3 looks good....but....it looks like a sucker that sprouted across one straight root.
I would work on ground layering that one. In spring.

Oops yes! When I said 'air layer' I didn't mean: now...

I agree with Sorce, #3 seems nice, i have a sucker like that coming from a root of the tree in front of my house, I'll try to layer it this spring.

sounds like a plan :o)

I will look up ground layering lol!

It is coming off a root so I was wondering the best way to get it off.. went searching more today but didn't find many and didn't have my phone so maybe more pics this weeekend.

Is there anything I can be doing now to prepare for the work to do in spring?
as in partial dig around, chop, trim, train, etc?

Thank you for the help!

I wouldn't do much myself, if anything I'll just go back and mark with something the ones i'll collect and wait until they get all the leafs out, specially that bald cypress, and make sure stays clean because of the dead wood might be prune to decease or bugs, most people collect bald cypress before buds break, I do the opposite.

Walk 2... Nothing crazy but wanted to take a few pics..

We used to own chicken houses and my dad planted plum trees in about 1980. So I wanted to see if they were still there.. Most not lol, but one had a few live branches, buds, etc!

I would love to airlayer, etc to have a "copy" of one of these! Brings back memories :o)
Not sure about digging up?

Saw several of these.. Most of the trunks looked awesome, but seemed dead, falling appartish, but parts still alive? Sage?

Are you in Florida? Withthout a location it is almost impossible to give good advise, but if he soil is very sandy, you need to over estimate the distance you'll need to go to get viable roots. And probably do major trenching years ahead of time and cut down the competing vegetation to restore strength.

MFP.

Missed first post.

Its Georgia !

1Mbrews8, it helps to put it on your profile.!

Also, look for taper fast at the ground, of you have that, dig at the base to find the Nebari, of you have that, flag it for spring.

If not look up for layers. Fast taper, good movement and structure. Flag em for spring.

You are bound to find good material there. Look by hills, game trails, fallen trees, edges, etc.
