So, imagine my surprise...

Y'all want to see snakes? Come visit! You can't legally take them but there are like 150 species. About 1/3 are venomous, all vipers and I think 3-4 types of coral snake. The one that scares everyone is el tarciopelo, the fer de lance or lancehead viper. They are like rattlesnakes without the warning. I know of an indigenous kid who lost a leg to a bite. Then there is the mata buey, or bushmaster, the longest viper in the world they say.
When I get back to the states I plan to make cages with ficus and reptiles together. I'd like to get into chameleons and some geckos, maybe breed them to sell.
Anyway thanks for not killing your visitor. It's so sad that many kill any snake they find. So ignorant.
I think Sorce is onto something. I'd go with veiled chameleons for a show, they don't wander as much. I always loved reptiles and growing up in Fl I got to play with lots of reptiles. I killed a 3' diamond back on Lido key at the beach. Somewhere else I would have left it alone. But kids play there, and clueless tourists.
Snakes have a bad rap since the Bible. So I like it when people save them.

Might as well try to bring this back to some degree of on-topic conversation!

I went to Costa Rica a few years ago on one of those organised tours of about 15 people for 3-4 weeks. We went up the Atlantic coast and then back down the Pacific coast stopping in various places along the way - some of the more touristy places like La Fortuna, the cloud forest in Monteverde and then for a few days we stayed at this reserve called Rara Avis in the middle of the jungle which was one of the coolest places I've ever been... possibly THE coolest! Took a 2 hours tractor ride then a 2 hour hike up into the jungle through the heaviest rain I've ever experienced.
We did one of the midnight hikes through the forest looking for wildlife which was incredible, being told that if you fall over DO NOT reach out to grab something to stop your fall as you're more likely to bring down branches or vines that have snakes and shit on them. We saw some bad ass glass frogs which you can see through, bullet ants, and this little viper coiled up on a leaf watching us go by among loads of other snakes and huge bugs and stuff.

Definitely want to go back some day, easily the only place in the world I've travelled to where I felt such a connection to the natural world even if it was mostly 'eco-tourism'.

Threw in some of my favourite pictures since no one else has posted anything to look at even though they're nothing to do with snakes...(that's not a dig at anyone lol)

You can start talking about snakes again now I'm done reminiscing
