So, I found this amazing tree...

Nothing ventured, nothing gained...if you hadn't asked, it would have driven you crazy, so good for you.

Unless this guy is a near neighbor I would leave it alone. Just keep your eyes open and look for opportunity to make some sort of friendly contact with the guy at some point. If you are not careful, and here is something funny (peculiar not ha ha) about human nature. This tree is of absolutely no value to this guy (probably) but the fact that you are interested in it could cause him to destroy it, just to keep you from having it. I have seen this happen.

Well I went and asked today, and the answer was a clear NO. The guy wouldn't even open the glass exterior door to talk to me! I tried to be as nice as possible, smiled a lot, offered to replace it with something he would like... He would barely even talk to me. I know he doesn't see it the same way I do, doesn't care about the character of the tree... But he clearly didn't want to make any kind of deals with me.

Bummer...

Oh well, at least I know now!

That is a Bummer for YOU!...its amazing how a $100 bill bought that guy off so easily!! You never should've given me a clue to its whereabouts (daycare)...I will be digging it next month!!!!!! Should have been faster there young man and it could've been yours:mad::mad:

just kidding but I bet I had you going for a second!!!

ROFLMAO, You got me! ;)

I am in sales too, not used to people saying no to me very often! LOL
This could be it. Some folks are sensitive to sales people ;)...you might have (unconsciously) sent that signal and he is just being cautious.

BTW, sales start after the client says no. ;)

Have the Fiancée ask about the tree....Have her ask about it as a wedding present to you.

Maybe you can offer to buy the house. Dug it up and then sell the house.

You laugh I know someone who did exactly this to get some really cool styled landscape Japanese Black Pines. Bought the dug up the trees had us relandscape and sold the house all within 4 months.

Someone has to really be overwhelmed by the bonsai bug. The tax, legal, and logistics of the whole deal, not to mention digging up the trees, had to be a nightmare.

Not bonsai -niwaki's. It took a crane and 6 guys 3 days to dig and box the trees. He has more money then anyone would know what to do with so it was nothing to him. Actually I'm pretty sure he made money on the deal caused he sold the house for 125k more then he paid for it including removing the trees and re-landscaping.

Some people do crazy stuff when they get bite by the bug. I have a student who was 25 single and living in a little townhouse at the time who bought a house so she would have a yard for her trees! She lived in a townhouse and her balconies were so full of trees she had to water from inside with a hose.

I'm guilty as well. Before I bought the nursery I had a couple of hundred trees but that wasn't enough! I had to buy a nursery full of them. That was 18 years ago and I'm still doing crazy things to get trees.

LMAO! I have actually been paranoid that I might have tipped someone else off to it's whereabouts and they were going to swoop in before I could talk to the guy! Something tells me a stack of bills in my hand would have been a better approach... People are not as quick to close the door when there is money in their face!

We need to take up a collection John- between you me and Ken I bet we could put together enough cach touh this guy off!

True, but it s hard to sell to the back side of a door! People don't sit on the other side of glass in my office and shut the door after they say no! Lol

You just know that cranky old man has a shotgun next to the front door...we're talking South Carolina here!!

There is a cheap 410 at the front and back door here and I live in a Townhouse. Just a traditional "farm" thing even up North. Odd though the Wife calls me a Cranky Old Man...

If I were you, I'd send my wife, daughter, anyone female over to speak. Women and girls generally are more welcomed and appear less intimidating. Give that a try.

I agree...our accountant had my husband shaking in his shoes. On how gruff he is...now,I deal with the accountant. Who is amazing and super sweet. I have caught him with men clients...as soon as he sees a female his entire being changes. Great guy...AMAZING accountant! Tells it the way it is...but in a different demeanor to women. My husband goes on occasionally...but with the understanding it's not him...it's how the guy works.

I would just forget about it. The guy said no. Leave it be.
