Smoking Down in Michigan!

That's what I'm talking about.
A guy with a green thumb could make out pretty good.
Until the federal laws change, though, there will always be risks for these people. Even in states where recreational use has been legalized. Certainly those willing to take on that risk could do very well!

See ya in August! .....

Or sooner!

It seems like they might be coming around.
But then again you cant tell what's coming down the tube from those crazy bastards from one day to the next.

I really cant wait!
I was thinking the other day about seeing if you wanted to sell your wares at the show. We can find out if you like. I think I'm going to need more space too.

California's experience would suggest it's harder than you think. As soon as cannabis became legal the state starts imposing regulations and taxes. Then the counties take their cut. Then the local govt adds some more tax. The state requires legal cannabis to be certified for safety, so each lot needs to be tested for residual pesticides, solvents, heavy metals, microbial contaminants, fungal toxins, etc. The guy with a green thumb also needs some significant start up capital to get an income stream established.

In Michigan the current prerequisite for a recreational license to grow is to have a current, as of Dec 2018 license for medical marijuana. I live in a township that opted in for legal grow operations. There was a sudden land grab, property values shot up. Its a seller's market. I'm thinking about getting out of blueberries. I don't qualify to get a medical license, so I'm just waiting for the right offer on the farm. Unfortunately the other partners really like the property as a hunting camp, so it will take a nice offer to get them to agree to sell.

By the way, @queenofsheba52 my farm is only 22 miles west of Kalamazoo, if you ever want to come out and collect siberian elms in spring, send me a PM and I'll give you details. I've been meaning to drop in on Mike in Mio, but it is almost 200 miles north of me, and I just haven't gotten there yet.

This year I do want to make the August show. We'll see how it goes.

One thing's for certain, there is big agricultural money pouring in. One of my workout buddies actually asked me what I knew about growing pot. He said his wife had asked him to ask me because I was big into bonsai so I would know all about it :) They were wondering about investment opportunities. I told them I had zero experience... but I did go so far to see if there were any online forums with people discussing it. I probably shouldn't have been surprised, but I think marijuana forums are bigger than any other category of gardening forum out there (that I am aware of).

I think it's a good example of democracy in action. I don't partake, but I don't begrudge my neighbor from doing so in the privacy of his home or property. Just be responsible about it - like alcohol consumption.

“Retired” politicians (turned lobbyist) are getting involved. Former useless speaker of the house, (redundant statement either party) John Boehner, now touring as a some sort of cannibis investment ambassador. To quote Clint Eastwood...”Get OFF MY LAWN..”

Another sad ass example of left wing liberal democrats promoting, pushing and getting their way to legalize a proven gateway drug, ask the folks in Denver how well its working out for them...the long haired hippies have spoken....

I've lived in Denver since 1984. We were the first to legalize recreational use, it really hasn't been an issue. In fact, the burb I live in is building a MASSIVE rec center up the street from my house that is almost fully funded from the tax revenue generated from marijuana sales. There are countless other projects taking place all over the state that have been funded by pot proceeds ($250 million in 2018). Overall, it's been very successful.

The only thing that has been bad is everyone keeps moving here, which is jacking up the cost of living, but that's because Colorado is pretty awesome.... well the western half is anyway! =)

I summited 30 peaks last summer while puffing. I don't know anyone with long hair, that went out of style with Nickelback.

I've personally seen multiple peoples lives be ruined by alcohol. I can't think of one due to weed.

Oh yeah... I'm a moderate conservative.

Puff, Puff, Pass!

I never thought it would actually happen in my lifetime.
Legal weed.
For recreational use.
12 plants.
2.5 ounces on your person at any given time.
Cant smoke it in public or while driving.( Who would do such things?)
It will take about a year but there will be stores with all kinds of good things for your physical and mental wellbeing available to the public.
Not just those with green cards.

My retirement plans may go into effect earlier than I thought.

Experience Pure Michigan!

I was watching 'Murder Mountain' on Netflix which is in Humboldt County, California and it's scary stuff this drugs lark. I think legalization might be a good thing - people will just do it anyway. At least it is monitored and taxed.

So have I.

I used to grow some in the 80s because I didn't want to fund international, and local criminality.

I gave it up when I had children, but I don't mind having the occasonal poke. Yet, I'm still struggling with my addiction to alcohol, which started in my late teens. It's improving though, thanks :D
