Coming along great in the ground!I had to make some room for a bunch of arakawa air layers I am doing this season, so I put together this 9 cork bark elm clump. I really like how they were at various stages, so it already looks pretty convincing with varying shapes, thicknesses and heights. This is going to be a big one, similar in size to the JM Bjorn made with Valavanis.

I ended up putting the colander in a grow bed for a year, and repotted again a month ago into an overly large pot. I didn't want to have too much soil to keep it shallow so I didn't fill the pot all the way

I plan on chopping this summer for a shohin clump. I have another one that'll be larger but can't post pics because it's in the vault thread until 2026
Are those all (black squares) Anderson flats?I just pulled these from their winter spot today. Unlike last year, they are essentially still dormant, though one JM group is definitely beginning to push. Only a few are getting up potted to flats, and I'm hopeful we have a good growing year with more root fusing and trunk thickening growth!

The smaller squares are pond baskets... the trees in those will get moved to A flats shortly. Are those all (black squares) Anderson flats?
Just out of curiosity, do you allow the roots to escape the bottoms thereby allowing them to ground grow (then root prune/repeat)?The smaller squares are pond baskets... the trees in those will get moved to A flats shortly.
I've thought about it, but have too many rabbits around to feel comfortable leaving them on the ground for any length of time.Just out of curiosity, do you allow the roots to escape the bottoms thereby allowing them to ground grow (then root prune/repeat)?
