Hi everyone... I think my eagerness to use this rock clouded my judgement on what tree to plant over it... I just can't shake the feeling that there's something wrong in the composition... Should I plant a taller tree on it instead? ... And by the way, I don't have more aged specimens.... Brutal and honest comments will be appreciated :):):)

I think it is beautiful. The overhead shot made me think of fireworks over an island. The plant really is stunning.

My opinion...

I think you have two interesting things that are fighting with each other instead of complimenting each other. The tree has beautiful, light, graceful feminine character. The rock is rugged and masculine. The rock would be better paired with a conifer - or something that looks like it was growing on a mountainside. The tree would be better in a painted pot - something perhaps reminiscent of a formal garden or spring - which would best emphasize the blooms.

Thank you... You are very intuitive and I think you are precisely right about it showing 2 gender qualities in itself... Now that you have mentioned it, I now understand exactly what happened to this piece... I believe I might have projected myself on it ... Hmmmm maybe I need to tinker with this piece and try to "harmonize" it and make it a representation of my persona :)...

I think the rock is just too thick.

I hate one of my plantings for This same reason.

The rock needs to be in proportion with the tree just as a pot does.

Beautiful though.

I like it a lot. It gives off a 60s Star Trek set piece vibe. :)

Thank you...

Thanks for the insight... I appreciate it very much :):)

This is a very cute presentation.
Having said that I think proportion should be a consideration here.
The flowers and leaves are too large for this plant to be considered a miniature tree, which is what we strive for.
To make the leaves and flowers more in proportion you should work to increase the trunk size.
To do that you should either plant it in the ground or in an oversized box planter to increase the trunk size.
When the trunk is sufficiently thickened and tall enough you should then put it into some form of bonsai pot.
At that point your tree will look like a miniature tree.

That is what I would.

I don't see a problem, but if the trunk was about twice or even 3 times as thick it would match the rock better.

It's a very young tree...lovely in bloom. I would personally cover some of the young roots to develop them further...then..if one wishes to expose a bit later do so.

I think Greg nailed it. The rock is extremely masculine and those blooms are anything but. A dainty feminine pot...or...a feminine thin slab possibly if wanting that stone planting.

Love this species...pondered getting one myself. But alas...its tropical. And I only have a bougainvillea which is tuff as nails for northerners to take on. Lost my tropicals over heating issues a few years back...its just not worth the risk we face...and the devistation of one thing out of ones control taking a person's tropical collection. Please continue to share...I might live vicariously through ones like you.

Thank you for your advise :)... I don't know if this plant will survive the winters... but they are easy to care for in our climate and prolific bloomer ...
