Shou Sogi Ban technique stand

Shou Sogi Ban is an old Japanese technique of burning and brushing the wood to get a 3D effect on the wood grain.
I used it on this stand I built.
The close up in black is of a shoji screen I made using this technique.

I probably would prefer the rest not to have the green stain(?) though.

Beautiful! I really enjoy this technique, and I just finished a bonsai “bench” using it. What wood did you use? And did you re-burn after your first brushing? I used Cedar, and the softer spring growth between grain lines really digs out when you brush it giving a two tone look that is stunning. I have heard that hardwoods don’t really do this as much however.

the green makes the tree foliage “pop”!

Beautiful!! I love the green stain.
