Separate an airlayer now or wait till next season?

I made this airlayer just 2months ago and my plan was to separate it next year.
Yesterday I took a little sneak peek to the airlayer and this is what I found.
No roots exactly but this svelling is looking like it could turn in to roots if needed. Maybe the sphagnum moss has been too wet.
What do you quys think. Should I separate or wait?

The goal of air layering is to grow new roots on a part of a plant that previously had no roots. You should wait until you have some roots.

The leaves of layer have started to change color and rest of the tree is still green.
Is this normal for layers?
