OH, and these guys in my area are pretty much semi- evergreens (or... Semi-deciduous? Does it matter... Never know which is correct)... They lose the biggest leaves from the previous year in late winter early Spring, and if it gets down to say low twenties or below, some leaves may brown and fall off. I have never seen them lose all their leaves but they may in a colder climate. I do not know their tolerance for pain when it comes to cold, luckily we don't test those limits often around here. I know it probably gets a bit colder where you are, so for a tree in a little pot like this some winter protection is probably advisable! Especially for this first winter in a new home. We only recently had our first cold nights, it has been CRAZY warm so far this "winter", so the tree probably thinks it was living in South Florida the past year! LOL
I am honestly kind of excited you got this one man... It was one of my top 3-4 cuttings from last year, but I have so many others from the past I plan to keep I wasn't giving it the attention it deserved.. It is an old wood cutting so it should bloom and berry for you (it did this Sori). The squirrels and birds will try to eat the berries, which I thought were poisonous but nothing seems to bother my squirrels. I need to offer some larger caliber "lead poisoning" I think... The branches that bloom tend to stop growing- or dramatically slow down- while they are blooming, so if growth is your goal, you may want to remove them Early... Always hard for me to do because I enjoy these for the show! Thorns are there but I have never had much damage caused by them.
