Satsuki Azalea - first steps from cutting

Uh I feel super lucky. It is possible to learn the basics (wiring, styling, pruning, watering etc) from a student of Mr. Kobayashi. They just told me that it's possible to attend to a class where they can teach me the things. I think I can't miss this. :)

Osakazuki is a good solid older cultivar. These are not as persnickety as the newer cultivars.

A couple characteristics of this cultivar... likes a cool place and misting and does not like to have too much spring foliage removed as they are sensitive to this treatment.

btw: Osakasuki has a number of flower sports, so look out for different flower color and shapes in the future and be sure take cuttings from these once this guy is grown out. Once grown out, the cutting will yield a new cultivar for free. Sports to look out for are: Asahi no Kagami, Chinzan, Hanabi, Kazan 1, Osakazuli no Hikari, Otome no Taki, Shinisakazuki, and Temari.

cheers

Unfortunately it did not make it. Somehow I think it was too windy outside and it it probably dried out. Even if I tried to water it, the pot was probably not big enough to keep enough water and/or it was overwatered, hard to tell. (I'd vote for the drying out)... ;/

But I'm not giving up, but I have to move back to Europe so I'm not buying a new one until I'm home again for another 5-6 years.
