Yeah, more or less across the front.

These redline roots carry on as thick woody things and flare out to at least 9" across, probably a little more. I hope to drop the soil level to expose that full flare. Aside from that I don't think there are any long inflexible bits to worry about. Should be packed full of fine flexible root and any reasonable dimension should be fine for the other.

Where we can place it side to side is hard to say until the day. The pot it is in now is exactly 12" in diameter.

You can drop the level of your virtuL pots lower to account for future soil level being dropped. Down here somewhere roughly.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Wireme, having an all too brief visit and seeing his trees. First and foremost, he’s one hell of a nice guy. His collected material rivals any professionally collected material I’ve seen. He is horticulturally and stylistically curious. His natural resource knowledge exceeds most members of this forum. He does this while working full time to support his young family. He doesn’t have the luxury of highly skilled professionals, mentors or active clubs nearby. We are all on this quest for experience, skills and knowledge. Sometimes the road there gets a little bumpy. It has for all of us. Wireme has my full respect.

I am going to start working with these 2 new clays today....
If you want to play with color...

I like the darker in fear that the red will match the bark color too close. .....

Either way I'd like to get both fired first to see them in person.

The arrows are probably not all that precise location wise.. closeish.

I’ve been liking the idea to give you free reign without influencing the design, fun surprise.

I’ve even been trying not to think myself.
Couldn’t help it, a thought emerged out of nowhere the other day. See the red/yellow line, I think a cool kind of arc will show at the tree base after repot. Had an idea for potlines to follow it.
Don’t consider this to be a “YES”! It’s just a “hmmm?”.

I am disappointed, but somehow, this is kinda the reason to get a Sorcemission Early! Mad Discounts on, what I hope to be, very special, perfectly useable pots!

That said everything else about this pot is exactly what a Sorcemission pot is, and I thank you for the opportunity to share this!

I love that you kept both the jins, you kept an open mind about the future of this tree, and even though that bear decided to shorten it some, you held onto what mother nature offered. Open minded future vision.
So I put that bear there forever to bring balance to that vision. (I hope it was a Black Bear!)
Rather than mostly negative space there, he is bringing attention, and looking at it now, throwing your eye perfectly back up the lines of the tree.

Wow...the jins act so well now, protecting that beautiful tree against the bear too!
That wasn't intentional. Somehow that was brought about by the energy that is the bond between you and your tiny skier! Which is awesome...and she is amazing...so you know I had to make her a pot!

I really can't explain what an honor it is to be trusted with this work, new as I am, for such an amazing caliber tree. I will send you detailed pictures of my dirtbag concerns, and if it is beyond your level of acceptance, while we may miss this years repotting opportunity, I will work to reach your expectations.

So, I was just out digging,,with the recent freeze/thaw we’ve been getting the snow is firm enough in morning to tempt the dogs to romp around on it. That can lead to all sorts of carnage amongst tree tops of course so I’m exposing and digging out the front of the dog barrier now.
I was able to get to the fence and look down.

This little juniper has some snow support over it and is in a little snow cave.

There she is right there, poking out, appears unsquashed and uneaten from what I see so far, looking good.

I started throwing random shit in and forgot what I put in it when it came tome to fill out the paperwork! Oops!

I must have guessed accurately!

But then I watched this puppy show and how they train em to walk on conveyors and sniff boxes....and I couldn't stop thinking about how possible it is I may have accidentally dropped "plant material" in there....

Ha, “to see if we even have trees”, so true, I like that.
What gets me is the variables of yearly snowpacks, 15 years or so of wintering bonsai here and I still see new circumstance and challenges. Often in spring the snow gets warm and just dissolves nicely around the trees. This year the melt is so gradual that the pack is just shrinking and dragging everything embedded slowly down along with it. I just helped a spruce out, couldn’t believe the bend in the trunk, way more than I would ever give it, old two inch trunk. The top jinn was flat against the snow by the stick there. Was getting worried and helped free the trunk, risky move could have torn all the branches right off when she sprung free. I think it will be ok, half sprung now, branches still on. Wondering what else I will find. Glad I had the snow support over this rmj and others, they would have been in real bad shape from this spring otherwise.
