Better late than never...For me, fall repotting is around thanksgiving to before xmas. In zone 9 we only get light frosts in Feb - early March, so not much of an issue. During early - mid fall, there can be a lot of vascular growth and swelling. So when I repot in late fall I try to wait until that vascular growth has slowed or stopped. I should note that I consider fall repotting a maintenance task, not a major operation; I think late winter/early spring is ideal. This is a great thread about repotting based on first hand experience. I am in the situation of looking at a likely fall repotting because I didn’t use quality soil on a field grown tree when first dug it out. May I ask the timing of your fall repotting and how much time did you give the trees to recover before the first frost?
Thank you.
