One trick for removed imbedded wire is to lube it with vaseline and let it sit a day or two then ease it out. The problem you might have now is that with the tree in grow mode the bark can easily slip off if you’re not really careful. You are correct about junipers, do not repot and style in the same year.

I don’t have much reason to touch the tree for a while other than watering so I hope to avoid bark slipping

I ended up trying my hand at it today. I went slow and careful and got a lot off but not all. Some is really tricky to get to and I’m afraid to try. Here’s an example of how deep some of the cuts are. Do you think I could have done any damage by removing? I was extremely careful and methodical and I don’t see any sap or anything.

I'd apply some callus mate paste on the wound to avoid excessive moisture loss. I have lost a few JBP's due to deep cut wounds not treated in the middle of summer.
