Refrigerated shohin

Creative approach Mach5. Trees look great... Still cold down here in maryland.

Ah, Dario... It would appear that your are beginning to get a little "experience"!

It is best for beginners to begin with larger trees. Then work themselves down to the smaller trees. The smaller the tree, the more the details matter. The less forgiving of small mistakes.

Really, shohin are an old man's game. (Of course, there are exceptions.)

I love the big trunk trees. But I find I find myself ever more attracted to the shohin.

I wonder what that says about me...?

Looks good Mach 5, I don't think the Larch forest would fit? lol. Every extra day you can save the tree's from breaking dormancy too early will help you from dancing too much...(The bonsai two step)

All this complaining about moving your heavy trees... sheesh, put on your big girl panties and just get it done.

Good to hear. Thank you.

LOL. didn't know whining is no longer allowed. :p Honestly, it is more of concern when I can no longer carry them. They tend to get heavier every year...and I (sadly) weaker as I get older.

Thanks Nomiyama! Great to see you also on Saturday. Yes no room for that "little" forest of yours! Hope you enjoy it for many years to come. I will miss it! I do like dancing but the bonsai two step gets very tiresome after a while :p

Great times man. :)

Whining not allowed ? Hell, this is America and whining is about the only freedom we have left, in fact its avdily promoted and rewarded here.

Just joking, I doubt they make big enough girl panties for most of use here ...

Erb I do like them. Perfect of course for small size bonsai. In my experience not as vigorous as your standard green A. Palmatum. My approach to them has been much the same to any other maple horticulturally speaking. One thing to note is their tendency to come out of dormancy quite early and they are more brittle as well so watch out when wiring them.

Aren't these the ones that suffered damage because of the dryness of the fridge?

I put two of mine in the fridge without issues. Not constantly.

That is ok. I put mine for about 3 weeks and although the soil was kept damp the dry air desiccated the fine twigs. I believe something simple like a bowl of water to add moisture could have helped prevent it.

Yes I also found it damaged the smallest fine twigs and for like a month I couldn't figure out why. I put a large bowl of water in the bottom and it seemed to help. Did it with a juni and kotohime and the kotohime did have a few twigs blacken but not too bad.

ya, when i got mine I played around with a branch that I knew I didn't want to keep, and snapped it literally within 5 seconds...brittle brittle brittle!
