Redwood Empire Bonsai Society Annual Show

Let’s see what you got!
The only thing worth mentioning is this Trident that has a great base and thick trunk but will need to be fully rebuilt. But Its cool because I have a few other long term trident projects. Paid 40$

I also got a purple leaf plum that needs some wiring and isnt that great but will be good practice for a prunus. Paid 20$

Wife got (3) starters, a ginko, a occidentalis “lavender starflower”, and a bougainvillea “raspberry ice”

Yeah. I spent way too much money, but that's part of the hobby, right?!

Picked up a Procumbens Nana and a Redwood from Bob Shimon. Also, bought two pots for the Boxwoods to go in next spring.
I had my money out for that tan glazed oval for one of my zelkovas but decided against it last minute. Glad you got it, it was super nice.

The bark on the trident is pretty tasty
Yeah thats what Caught my eye. The rest is a dumpster fire, but my plan is to wizard hat it unless something else makes me change my mind when I repot it next year.

Im going to follow some of your advice too @Smoke because your tridents dont have burnt tips and mine do :p

Nor Frank Bardella's
No. I didn't either. I think that Elm forest used to be his. Wayne Culp has owned it since before he died though. I wanted to see that giant, spectacular Juniper of his again.
His wife, Barbara, was running the owner tree sales area as usual. I think a lot of the accent plants were probably hers also. It's pretty cool that she's staying involved with the club still. She doesn't really do bonsai. I also think Kathy is still doing the advanced workshops out at her place. That's where she wanted the tree forms sent.
This year there was a dedication table for Ian Price of Lone Pine. It's sad that we've lost these great members of the club.

Thats not a good trunk to do a wizard hat on. It is a good trunk to do a natural branched real looking maple though???

I suspect thats sierra juniper. They don't grow like that in the desert.

Yes here it is in 2018 at Lakeside. I suspect his trees went to both collections. I will have to check and see if we have any at the Fresno collection.

Nice. I haven't been to Lake Merritt in a long time. I should plan a trip. My boys would love to see it.

The liquidambar was in the show this year. I don't know who owns it now. I always drooled over that ROR trident.
