That's way too much work, unless you just like the action and exercise. Once you get old enough you'll probably post, "Why not use a cordless reciprocating saw?"Why not use a hand saw?
I go through one cordless every couple of years. Ryobi's $60 model. They're good for about 200-300 large trees before giving out. They're also great for sawing your root zone flat, sawing off that bottom half of a full pot of roots and trimming back those bigger radial roots to fit a bonsai pot. I can't speak too highly of the cordless reciprocating saw. And keep a supply of the 12" Milwaukee pruning blades for collecting work, plus extra battery packs.
To each his own, of course.
